Staggered Blooms

laying atop a tree,

nestled in warmth,

covered in woven protection,

a larva slept soundly.

nourished, fed, cared for,

it knew no harm

it drew no rain nor storm

she was a beauty sheltered from sin.

one who had always been hidden,

one who had always been shielded,

she will soon emerge and shall

peck at her armor and dream of danger.

dull in color,

sepia in tone,

clueless and curious,

crawling, one step at a time.

stumbling, fumbling, trembling

the caterpillar who could only crawl,

Grew her wings.

Black, blue, purple, pink hues

The Mariposa has bloomed.
